Baby christening gift information
There is only one reason to give a baby christening gift: the christening of a baby into the church. However, there are many possible recipients of such a gift:
- The baby - This is an obvious recipient. The child who is being christened is being welcomed into the world of the church. As Dom Columba Marmion has emphasized in his great writings, Christ is the very life of the soul after baptism. So, we think that giving a gift to the entrant into religion is very appropriate and a wall cross is a wise choice.
- The godparents - Choosing godparents for their child is not insignificant act. The choice is very important and is made after great consideration. In order to be a godparent, the person needs to be a good practicing Catholic who can attest to the beliefs of the Catholic Church and is going to be a part of the godchild's life for the rest of their life. Often, this is a family member, but it can be a friend. The goal is to ensure that person will be in the life of the child.
- The parents of the child being christened - A big step in any parent's life as a parent is making the decision to welcome their child into their faith. Let them know you support their decision.
Gifts are never required but they are a gesture of goodwill on a day that is an important spiritual milestone for a child. A cross is particularly relevant
as a baby christening gift or baptism gift, whether it is a wall
cross, jewelry, sun-catcher, or even a ceiling fan pull.
